Matte Painting: Das Boot

For this digital matte painting exercise we started from the idea that WW2 continued for some extra decades and the world powers built bigger and bigger battleships. Vessels like the -never built -"Führer Class" battleship. War ships so big they could carry entire armies and with the firepower of a whole armada. But so big as well, that they easily got stuck in shallow waters. They were abandoned after the war eventually ended and many years later, nature took over those wrecked war machines. 

 

The videos below are a selection of our VFX students animated matte paintings. They are build up in Photoshop and animated in After Effects, where they create an illusion of a 3D space with 2D images.
